Anubis is the Egyptian god of the dead. He is depicted as a black jackal or dog, or as a man with the head of a jackel or dog.

Anubis is believed to be a guide for the dead. He duty was to lead spirits thru the underworld to Osiris.

To me he represents the evolution of consciousness from lower to higher levels because he helped souls travel thru the underworld.

Anubis can be seen on Key 10 of the Major Arcana.
